By-lanes 10: India Art Fair 2013

In By-lanes, I narrate experiences of the Serpentine journey, full of detours, diversions, tangents, and by-lanes. Name inspired by the song By-lanes by friend Lueit Parasar. Check: https://soundcloud.com/adimachine/

Yesterday my friend Kareem invited me for the Delhi art fair. Randomly my friend Saurabh was also there. Trying to meet an artist friend whom I also coincidentally know. We had gone to meet artists, none of whom  were there. I had written a write up for a my friend, a renowned artist, but she wasn't there! For a change.. all we had was left to see the artwork all around! Was good to see her artwork it, up on the wall!! As we meandered through the exhibits, I tried to surmise them in words: erratic, high, highbrow, avante garde, experimental, awry, saturnine, primordial, sombre, whacky, irreverent, wild mutations of reverence/ profanity, whacky satirical, sarcastic, slapstick humorous, etc. Only one word to sum it ALL up: Serpentine !!
Later I & Saurabh went to backyards of NSIC grounds. Peacocks roaming, abandoned warehouses. Giant serpentine logs of trees. A Serpentine meandering by-lane through the world of art..

By-lanes 09: Mood of Choladhara house, Jorhat

In By-lanes, I narrate experiences of the Serpentine journey, full of detours, diversions, tangents, and by-lanes. Name inspired by the song By-lanes by friend Lueit Parasar. Check: https://soundcloud.com/adimachine/

In my earlier post  I was narrating how because of my mobile malfunction I couldn't take any snaps to capture the Serpentine, shady ambience of our uncles/ ancestral Choladhara house. However, later after chanting Rahu Ketu mantras, a roundabout solution presented itself. I took snaps from my aunt Bulas mobile and blue-toothed each one separately/ individually to my mobile. Then I  transferred the images from my mobile to the PC. Aunt Bula's Nokia mobile camera is a bit blurry but this "mistake" captured perfectly, the cloudy TENEBROUS, hazy serpentine atmosphere of the house. EVEN in broad daylight. With the Serpentine Lords, the erratic mistakes, the offshoots, detours, by-lanes become the indispensable organic part of the intended objective. Thanks to the Serpentine Lords, I could for the first time capture the tenebrous ambience, the shady tangential, serpentine by-lane energy of the Choladhara house. Thru the  images below..

By-lanes 08: Choladhara house, Jorhat

Late late night, 1:30 am, 11oct, Thursday, uncles/ancestral house at Choladhra, Jorhat. Reached here late evening. While coming on the bus, began chanting Vishnu's Meen Avatar mantra for the first time. To amplify and boost Ketu energies. And later Varaha Avatar mantra to boost Rahu energies.
Later reaching Jorhat went for a dinner with my uncle and aunt. It was formal but the style of chicken and pulao was forgotten, ancient, colonial. I suddenly became ravenous. The taste opened a doorway into a forgotten world.
Now at the tenebrious ambience of our Choladhara house. Lying in the NE room typing.  Wanted to click a zillion gothic snaps of the night ambience of this house, but the camera stopped working. Typically unpredictable of the Serpentine energies. Now, its upto my word to express the thick, inky, tenebrous gloom late at night, in this house. All around me, the energy of objects seeped in the ancient dust of forgotten yesterdays. This house has had a long history of religion, magic, occult. And the thick inky darkness prevalent in the air carries the aura/ vibration/ shadows of those residual vibrations. Of  sacred secrets lost in time. It's so perfect that this Pitri/ Preta pakshya finds me lurking in the shadowy gloom of my ancestral roots. Inside the tenebrous gothic gloom of the Choladhara house. Inside here, my sensations go haywire, I become infused with a zombie/ animal energy. There's an electrifying eroticism in the nighttime silence of this house. Also the blood curdling terror of residual spirits. Strange sounds and sensation that make your skin crawl. An extreme mixture of Terror and Carnality. Whenever in the past I've landed up here, it has always led to late, late nights. And me up all night, coping/ working with some form of raw primitive magick. This is the first time I'm blogging live from my occult roots @  Choladhara house. Again some strange noises outside/ on the roof. Hope I live to see the light of day...!!!!
Thanks to the Serpentine Lords for allowing me to narrate such shady Serpentine by-lanes, so primordial to my being...

By-lanes 07: Tangents of Mercies..

In By-lanes, I narrate experiences of the Serpentine journey, full of detours, diversions, tangents, and by-lanes. Name inspired by the song By-lanes by friend Lueit Parasar. Check: https://soundcloud.com/adimachine/

On 17th Sept, my 39th birthday, I went to drop my wife Sangeeta at the airport. We were both at hometown Guwhati, but she had to return to Delhi for some urgent work. It was Biswakarma Puja, the Lord of architects. And celebrations all around. We went to our dads office for the Biswakarma puja enroute to the airport. Suddenly reaching the airport, I found wife Sangeeta's laptop bag missing. I had left it the office!!! Hardly any time for her flight left, and all important documents etc inside!! It was impossible for someone to reach from That far away. My wife was all fire/ brimstone/ Chamunda Kali avatar. A sight to behold.
Suddenly I called up my young friend Masfique Ali Hazarika. He happened to be near our office. And soon got hold of the laptop bag also. But too far away, too much distance, so I lost hope. But I began praying to God for some mercy, some miracle. The clock started moving in super slow motion. Each second stretching into infinity, wifes temper soaring , flaring like a dormant volcano gone active...Finally riding like the wind, flying across the skies friend Masfique reached.. with the laptop. I gasped a sigh of relief,  my prayers had been answered. Being Libran ascendant, my malefic planets Sun, and Mars always land me in the Grand Highway of Disaster and Crisis. But the Serpentine Lords save my case by their unexpected By-lanes of Relief! Unexpected angels and detours of relief. And for those odd tangents, Serpentine by-lanes of  respite..  I express my eternal gratitude...

Music 01: Annie Lennox

The music connected/ influenced by the Serpentine Lords of Saturn Rahu Ketu is shadowy mixture of erratic/ sublime at the same time. I find the erratic music of Annie Lennox a perfect depiction of Serpentine qualities. A perfect mixture of BIZZARE and DIVINE! Watch the video: click here:  Love Song For a Vampire. Enjoy...

By-lanes 06: Osians Cinefan Festival, 2012

In By-lanes, I narrate experiences of the Serpentine journey, full of detours, diversions, tangents, and by-lanes. Name inspired by the song By-lanes by friend Lueit Parasar. Check: https://soundcloud.com/adimachine/

After two long years of  long void, finally this year Osians film fest 2012 was held. As an obssessive fan since 2006, i made a lot of grand plans this year. Of live blogging, daily online critique of films, personal narratives, viewpoints etc. And even editing my shamble of a film 'After Paris' and giving it for the shorts. But with the Serpentine Lords of  Rahu Ketu, its always serpentine deviations from the expected  objective. Thus what took place was far from the objective/ critcal schedule i had planned. Instead a visceral/subjective/ highly personal experience unfolded. With the Serpentine Lords of Saturn Rahu Ketu, it's always almost opposite of what's planned. So here I am in the post orgasmic chill, the  severe hangover of the festival,  mulling over. At the end of a wild, tempestous and brief romance. Chewing the cud that i hastily swallowed. In 10 eventful days. Of  Osians 2012.

The first film I saw was Yeralti (Inside) by Zeki Demirkubuz, from Turkey. Suddenly my childhood friend B*** was before my eyes. The perfect EPITOME of Ketu energies!! He was cerebral, hypersensitive, overzealous, idealistic, sentimental. At odds with the changing mores of kaliyuga. Far from the politically correct metrosexual modern dude. And had bouts of iconoclastic behaviour in the most inappropriate social gatherings. The film seemed to explain his very existence. I called my friend painter Kareem, similarly ruled by Ketu energies, who was vastly similar. Told him, the films was on him. He cursed me but saw it. Liked it.
The next remarkable film I saw was Sentimental Animal by Wu Quan, from China. Few years back, me and my wife had gone for Nadi palm leaf/ past life readings at Qutab enclave, katwaria sarai. My wife Sangeeta's previous life seemed to be in China. and her husband was paralytic. but she took good care of him. the dark, grayish, hypnotic, nebulous, hazy, shades of Sentimental Animal seemed to manifest a past life predeliction in great cinematographic detail. Even the hair detail of the actress was same as my wife. the second time i saw without subtitles. Just the pure cinematic form.
Women on Edge by Masahiro Kobayashi, from Japan, captured the very essence of Hecate. The three witches, the fair maiden, the mother earth, the old crone. Three archetypes captured accurately. We saw it sitting cramped, on the carpet of the crammed Siri 4, audi. Worth every hair tingling frame. The divine, insane, hormonal, disbalance of the Shakti archetype.
Shame, that I saw The Smell of Curry and Rice, by Satoshi Yamaguchi, from Japan almost all alone at Blue frog. Maybe the world of mankind was NOT yet ready to be exposed to its infantile , filial obsession with food/ women/ domestication/ entrapment. Maybe the juvenille male illusion, "she cooks good like mother. she is good" is still there to stay. and hold  womenkind in disguised enslavement. Sadly with me its reversed. my mom was working, maid cooked horrible. So filialy, mother, women and good food are very different things for me. So i thoroughly enjoyed the sarcasm of this film.!!
Stateless Things by Kim Kyung Mook, from South Korea was one of the darkest movies i saw on migration, urban struggle, displacement. Unimaginably horrifying, cathartic, morbid, it expressed some of my own struggle/ displacement in Delhi. but in a far more acute and horrifying imagery. With Ketu, you see it, its negated. Neccesary, vaccination/ cathartic purgation to survive in this urban jungle. I came to this festival to understand. Not enjoy.
The Road by Yam Laranas, from Phillipines was one of the most brilliantly crafted horror contemporary movies. Its Shutter/Ring/ Grudge/ Curse/ Black water rolled into one. But MUCH More. I actually had to take out my asthalin spray in the vastly spacious, crowded siri Fort 1. Horror on ,many levels. Unlimited layers till the last frame!!! I wanted to congratulate Yam Laranas, but he was overcrowded with extra brilliant people giving him suggestions. First, make a 1/ 105th horror film like him, guys. Then comment.

I'm tired now. So many more. but these were the visceral best. in my personal, subjective, visceral, nightmarish, subterranean experience in Osians Cinefan, 20102. I think the Turtle, the symbol of the Osians Award was perfectly (signifying the amphibious, underwater, Kurma avatar, the subterranean realms this years Osians Cinefan Festival brought to us. From the mainstream highway of commercial fare, a subterranean, Serpentine by-lane into another realm.. worth every visceral moment..
